Volvo’s New Big Block IPS Drives
There’s a pod drive war a-brewing. Cummins announced last fall its new Zeus drives capable of handling its 715-hp QSM11 diesel, and Volvo Penta is following suit with its new IPS 1050 and IPS 1200 drives capable of handling its D13 800-hp and 900-hp diesel configurations. Like the Zeus, the new IPS can be installed in twin, triple, or quad configurations on boats from 35-100 feet. Volvo expects its new IPS drives to be available in the fall. There’s got be a joystick duel somewhere in the offing.
